Teacher Xie Shi, who calls himself a pirate descendant, prefers to study the history of the country, society and individuals from the perspective of people's life world and the relationship between people and the geographical environment. In his book The Old Man of Mountains and Seas, the ups and downs of the ocean history, the initiative of island people in the flow, and the official pragmatic and rational flexible policies are impressive. In such multiple tacit understanding, it is possible for people to settle on islands and along the coast.
In this lecture, Mr. Xie Shi will further introduce the cultural exchanges in the South China Sea in history, as well as the maritime activities of the people along the southeast coast of China in the monsoon trade era, so as to guide you to understand the mechanism formed by the economic and cultural network between modern port cities in South China and Asian countries. In addition, Mr. Xie will also try to provide a new perspective for the study of the temporal and spatial changes of modern port cities from the construction of Shantou Commercial Culture History Geographic Information System and Chaoshan Overseas Chinese Approval Document Database.
自称为海盗后代的谢湜老师更喜欢从人的生活世界，以及人与地理环境的关系去研究国家、社会和个人层面的历史。在他的著作《山海故人》中，跌宕起伏的海洋史、海岛人在流动中产生的能动性、以及官方的务实化和理性化的灵活政策让人印象深刻。在这样的多重默契中，人们在海岛和沿海的定居才成为可能。
本场讲座，谢湜老师将进一步为我们介绍历史上南中国海的文化交流，以及季风贸易时代中国东南沿海人群的海上活动传统，由此引导大家理解近代华南开埠城市与亚洲国家间经济和文化网络形成的机制。除此之外，谢老师也将从汕头商业文化历史地理信息系统、潮汕侨批文献数据库的建设，尝试为研究近代开埠城市时空变迁提供新的视角。
Professor Xie Shi is currently the director, professor, doctoral supervisor of the History Department of Sun Yat sen University, the dean of Boya College, and the dean of the Higher Humanities Research Institute. He has been selected into the National High level Youth Talent Plan of the Central Organization Department and the National High level Youth Talent Plan of the Ministry of Education. He is currently the Secretary General of the Steering Committee for History Teaching in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, and the Vice President and Secretary General of the Guangdong History Society. His works include "High and Low Villages: A Study of the Historical Geography of the South of the Yangtze River from the 11th to the 16th Century", "Mountain and Sea Ancestors: Zhejiang's Coastal History and Island Society in the Ming and Qing Dynasties", etc.
谢湜教授，现任中山大学历史学系主任、教授，博士生导师，博雅学院院长，人文高等研究院院长，先后入选中央组织部国家级高层次青年人才计划，教育部国家级高层次青年人才计划。现任教育部高等学校历史学类专业教学指导委员会秘书长，广东历史学会副会长兼秘书长。著作有《高乡与低乡：11-16世纪江南区域历史地理研究》《山海故人：明清浙江的海疆历史与海岛社会》等。
